Is throwing away your plastic toothbrush that much better for the environment? Are we really brushing with bamboo? I feel like this is all really familiar.

Claim: Brush with Bamboo. The worlds most eco-friendly toothbrush.

Is it true? Let’s watch the video.

True: Bamboo has smaller eco-friendly footprints, is biodegradable, and bamboo plants grow quickly. In a scientific study, researchers found switching from a traditional toothbrush is more environmentally sustainable for 3 reasons: inform individual consumer choice, oral health recommendations, and procurement of toothbrushes for public health programs and toothbrush manufacturers.

Considering the switch? There are still some reasons to be cautious.

False: Brushing with natural bristles can cause wear on enamel and begin receding gums because they are more rough than nylon bristles. Bamboo toothbrushes will also take up the same amount of space if they are thrown away like regular landfill.

Rich Delano and the Kumar Family founded Brush with Bamboo in 2008 in hopes to have a sustainable zero-waste life. They wanted to replace plastic toothbrushes with ecological bamboo alternatives — even their packaging is compostable.
